How Powerful Are We?

Most persons attracted to this site know about the law of attraction commonly called “The Secret” or “The Science of Mind”.   It’s the law of nature that says “What we think about and project via our feelings, is drawn to us.”   How powerful is it or more importantly, how powerful are we? Marianne Williamson, a recent Presidential Candidate puts it this way: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

When I first learned of the secret, I was fascinated and remembered to play with it in particularly difficult situations.   These are some of the experiences I have had.  Another person and I were installing tile in my kitchen. The vinyl was coated solidly with adhesive and extremely difficult to get up.   It took 2 of us 2 days using water and the appropriate tools to get enough off the concrete floor to begin to install ceramic tile on the third day.   When I went to take up the bathroom vinyl all by myself using the same appropriate techniques and tools, it was just as miserable.   That’s when I thought of the law of attraction. I immediately changed my thoughts to be one of gratitude.   “Thank you so much adhesive for easily coming off allowing me to lay tile in this room.” The feeling I placed with that was a child-like joy that it simply was. I had no fears, no doubts, no disbelief.   I simply was enjoying the experience. So, what happened?  The adhesive was up in an hour.   I had started soaking the floor a half hour before I thought of this. The bathroom was a third of the size of the kitchen.   It was wonderfully evidential to me of how this law worked.

I was on vacation at a lakefront soon after. It was dawn and the water had a few ripples to it.   I realized the ripples were more like bubbles and occurred as fish got near the surface jumping. I wanted to see them jump.   I remembered the newly understood law and simply asked for fish to jump in a way that I could see their entire body exit the water and dive down in. What happened almost instantaneously? The circles all over the lake became much more frequent and all of a sudden I saw a fish jump out of the water in an arc and dive down in.   I was thrilled. I saw a couple more.   Then to test the secret I declared “Ok. Now I want to see the lake look like glass”.   Momentarily, the lake became still and calm.   Hmmm.   If I had been given an Indian name that day, it would have been “Woman who makes fish jump”.

Fast forward a dozen years or so to this last weekend.   I was fortunate enough to be on the ocean with friends.   I walked over to see a couple of them sitting in chairs on the beach. As I got within a couple feet of them, a wave came under all our feet.   They said Woah!!! That hasn’t happened. They were sitting a good ten feet away from the previous edge. One of them asked me if I could part the clouds too and take away what looked like imminent rain.   I with full confidence and the playfulness of a child said “Sure!”   I took the stance of an Amazon woman pointing up towards the clouds and declared “Part”.   Hysterically, the clouds parted right where I was pointing with beautiful blue sky appearing. The whole in the clouds spread quickly to include space for the sun to shine through.   Within a half-hour, the full arc of the sky was blue with wispy straight clouds instead of the rain-filled ones.   She told a friend later that evening about it. We all had a good laugh!

You can call all these experiences co-incidence or you can play too.   Some say this life is a holographic projection. That would be one explanation. Another simply supports “The Law of Attraction”. It’s the way energy works.   We and everything around us is energy. So how powerful are we?   As I age, I noticed that I’m claiming more power. Of course, I want it to be used for the good or for a good laugh, whichever comes first. 😊 I think about how I can use it for the good for my community and beyond now.
