Gifting with our Heart, Thoughts and Emotions

xmas tree 2018

During the holidays, I hope you enjoy gift giving.   It is an opportunity to see through another person’s eyes to discern what they like and show love.   This process though can also be stressful.   Too little time and so much to do adds to the stress level.    We can sometimes miss the rich depth of the opportunities around us.   I’d like to pass along a new tradition of mine that brings peace to my heart and makes me smile.    Maybe it will be a way of balancing for you too.

It is a gift from the heart.   The Heart Math Institute has found that the electrical signal between our heart beats syncs up with the heart beats of those around us.  If we are feeling blue, people sense that through this immediate syncing.   If we are feeling at peace, the same is true.   Whatever we are feeling gets passed along.

Then too, our thoughts send out energy patterns of differing frequencies.   So if we are thinking loving thoughts, we emanate those higher frequency energies that also affect our world.   All positive thoughts have higher frequencies.   I was just listening to Dr. Joe Dispenza’s book “Becoming Supernatural” where he made this point.   He has a chart in this book that shows the frequencies of various thoughts and the emotions they evoke.  The more positive the thought the higher the frequency.    Remember how our thoughts, words and emotions affect water and its ability to create crystals when frozen?   That was in my last blog called “Gratitude”.

So here are the patterns I’m practicing using this knowledge.   The first I’ll share is a new idea that I got from the Angel Tree at our church.  Our members have brought in angel ornaments over many years representing each loved one whom has passed. As we were placing them on the tree last year, our lead minister suggested we honor each ancestor in our thoughts.  That was lovely.   I picked up on the idea this year with my own tree when I noticed that each ornament I had collected over the years reminded me of someone.   As I hung each one on the tree, I sent a blessing to the person it reminded me of.    Ahhhh.   It was a deeply felt, peaceful experience.  I absolutely believe in the power of prayer and the blessings it brings.

Here are other examples of how to gift with our thoughts.   In these examples, it doesn’t matter if you celebrate Christmas or not.   A wonderful meditation is to breathe deeply focusing on the breath.   Once calm and centered, with each breath in, think of someone.  With each breath out, send them a blessing.  Repeat this with a new person in mind for each breath in and out.  It’s a wonderful meditation for me.   I consider meditation any process that takes me out of my everyday thoughts.   Some describe it as taking one out of one’s “monkey mind.”  Ha!   I’ve also found it’s a good way to settle my mind and go to sleep at night.

When I’m in a crowd or store, I set the intention to breath out healing, loving kindness or peace to everyone I pass.   I feel the good effects it has on me.  I truly also believe it helps others when I know what science has discovered about how our heart, thoughts and emotions send out frequencies.  It’s why we can sense other people’s moods and the energy of a room.  Some of us have become more conscious of this than others.   However, science has demonstrated that everyone picks up on the energy whether they are aware of it or not.

Think about a stressful situation involving others in your life.  We all have them.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could simply stop, calm our emotions and set the intention of emanating co-operation and kindness?  Wouldn’t it be great if we could set that intention before going into a meeting or having a talk that we suspect could be stressful?

I’d love it if you’d share examples of how you have gifted with your thoughts too in the comments section at the bottom of this page.   I would really like to incorporate this as a habit in my life and be inspired with new ideas of how to do that.   Thanks so much for your participation in advance!

Peace and blessings.

Love and light.

Linda

  1. Linda, great article. Thanks for sharing. I have found that when I am interacting with someone and they seem short or irritable, I am able to change the mood by paying the person a sincere compliment. A month ago, I was at the doctor’s office and the receptionist was kind of snippy. I leaned forward and said I would kill for her beautiful eyes (they were a beautiful shade of blue). She was totally taken aback as she was expecting me to snap back. She was pleasant and friendly after this. I may have unconsciously prayed that both of us would be happy and uplifted and it did work!

  2. Awww…..deep breathing! It changes thoughts and emotions! It offers clear decision making, helps with stress, and helps us fall asleep. When people discover this, they realize it’s a form of meditation. Andrew Weil, MD, introduced the 4-7-8 method decades ago…breath in four, hold seven, breath out eight. So Grateful for this quick method of aligning our inner selves. And very grateful for this gifting of exchange in ideas! Thank you Linda!

  3. I was going “to town” (Lancaster) in the early mornings, daily, to walk with a friend .It would be day light and when a car would pass me, I look over, say a short positive prayer for the person driving, and SMILE. The response was fun and fascinating. People driving to work in the a.m. do not expect PRAYERFUL SMILES on the way to the good day ahead. Heart to heart……right!

  4. Linda, I would say you are absolutely on the right track with interrupting the “monkey mind,” the incessant chattering, the voice in the head. And yes, your definition of meditation, “any process that takes me out of my everyday thoughts,” is very good.

    Eckhart Tolle commented:

“Someone recently showed me the annual prospectus of a large spiritual organization. When I looked through it, I was impressed by the wide choice of interesting seminars and workshops. It reminded me of a smorgasbord, one of those Scandinavian buffets where you can take your pick from a huge variety of enticing dishes. The person asked me whether I could recommend one or two courses. ‘I don’t know,’ I said. ‘They all look so interesting. But I do know this,’ I added. ‘Be aware of your breathing as often as you are able, whenever you remember. Do that for one year, and it will be more powerfully transformative than attending all of these courses.’”

Daily deep breathing, be it only 60 seconds, will be more powerfully transformative than attending 100 seminars or 100 church services.

Why is this so? It stops the “monkey mind,” the chattering in the head. And why is it so important to stop the monkey mind? The monkey mind is the voice of the dysfunctional ego which attempts to convince us, “I don’t have enough” because “I am not enough.”

Stopping the monkey mind, even a brief daily meditation of 60 seconds, over the months, allows us to realign our inner selves, attune ourselves, to Universal Intelligence. And that’s all anybody needs, today or a million years from now.

    1. I love the quote you included and the idea of a brief daily meditation focusing on the breath. I am very poor at meditating regularly so this idea is perfect for me! Thanks.

  5. Absolutely lovely article, Linda. May I include a link to your blogs within my newsletter? Good thoughts, good news needs to travel far and wide. Many blessings. Thank you for taking the time to put such important information together for us to contemplate and live by.
BTW – I have an angel tree I started in December 2005. It brings a sense of peace and spirituality into my home. I love it. Glad you have the same. Every time I pass by it, look at it or meditate on it, it brings in more peace. What a gift! Love and light, Carolyn Molnar

    1. Thank you for including a link. That’s most kind. My tree has some angels on it and a wide variety from when my children were growing up as well as gifts of ornaments. I too stop and smell the roses (so to speak) with my tree. It certainly helps me emit vibes of happiness each time I see it too!

  6. This is an excellent article. Every time we send out positive energy when we are consciously breathing, that’s a prayer. Since we can’t stop breathing, we have a lot of opportunity to pray. Inhale. Exhale. Ahhh!

    1. Thank you kindly. I agree that if we are all inclusive with our intentions, we could be sending out lovely energy with every breath. I know a few people that I feel are really good at this.
